Preparing for the Theory Test
About the Theory Test
The current theory test is made up of the following two sections:
- Multiple choice questions based on the Highway Code, Traffic Signs and Driving Skills books.
- The Hazard Awareness exam.
Preparing for the two sections takes time and effort but there is plenty of resource material available to help. For example, you can learn using the traditional book method or by way of a CD-ROM. The DSA also has test questions for the multiple choice section available on their website and these can be very useful as preparation.
Once you feel you know the information inside out then you can book your theory test. You’ll need to have applied for and received your provisional licence before hand though as it has to be presented on the day of your test.
Booking your test
There are various ways to book your theory test including by phone, online and by post. The current fee is £31 and there is often a waiting time of a few weeks so book as soon as you think you’re ready.
On the Day
On the day of your test you’ll understandably be nervous however it’s important to get past this as nerves tend to play havoc with memory. Don’t forget to take both parts of your provisional licence with you but that’s all you’ll need. Once in the exam room take a few deep breathes and concentrate on the task at hand. Hopefully you’ll have gone over the source material the night before and tried a few questions online so the information is all fresh in your mind. Providing you know your stuff you shouldn’t have a problem and you’ll be out on the road before you know it.
